Barn Cat Adoption
In need of rodent control? Looking for friendly, feral, or semi-feral outdoor farm cats?
Thank you for your interest in adopting barn/farm/shop cats! We usually place at least two together, although there are circumstances where a solo cat may work well. We like to keep families together whenever possible.
All barn cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Feral cats and those we know will be outdoor cats will also be eartipped at time of surgery.
Outdoor cat adoptions requirements:
- Three-week minimum confinement. If cats are simply released in a new location, they’ll run off, trying to find their way home. They don’t know where they are or what’s happening and they’re scared, terrified even. Confinement helps them acclimate to their new home and keeps them safe while they get used to the new sights, smells, sounds and you!
- Food, water and adequate shelter from the elements. Cats are born hunters. Kittens as young as four weeks old start stalking and pouncing on the contents of their food bowl. It’s a myth that only hungry cats actively hunt. As many farmers have discovered, well-fed cats are much better mousers.
- Veterinary care when needed. While we don’t expect you to take feral cats in for additional preventative vet care, we do require that sick or injured cats are not allowed to suffer. We can help you retrap them if/when medical care or humane euthanasia is needed.
Our Process
- Apply: Complete the online application. The information you provide helps us know what type of cat is best suited to your outdoor situation.
- Review: We will review your application upon receipt and a volunteer will contact you within 24 hours, by phone or email.
- Prep: If you don’t already have a suitable set-up for barn cats, please take some time to get one ready. We can help. We have wire dog crates available for use as temporary confinement, if needed.
- Wait: We may not have the type of outdoor cats you’re looking for right away. We’ll let you know of any that might be available soon. It may be a few days or a few weeks. Your patience is appreciated!
